Due to its location on a small peninsula in the Mediterranean, Alanya experiences a climate defined by cool mild winters and long hot dry summers. Despite the cold mild winters Alanya still boasts amazing whether all year round, mainly due to the fact that it is also located below the Taurus Mountains, the architect of fog and visible rainbows in the mornings. This means that cold winds blowing from the north are broken up by the mountains which act as wind breaks before they reach Alanya. Thus don’t be surprised to be experiencing an average sea temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius during the winter whenever you’re in Alanya!

July, August, and September are considered the peak summer months with average highs reaching 31 degrees Celsius which tend to be common as well. These make for ideal swimming conditions in the coast. You can expect between 310 to 320 days of sunshine per year, thus the main reason behind Alanya’s tourism board slogan, “where the sun simles” in a recent tourism campaign.

In winter rain is a common sight here in Alanya, as well as during the autumn. Average highs during the winter months are around 15 to 17 degrees Celsius, as warm as Spring in London. Thus do not worry about being frost out in winter in Alanya.

Ocean temperatures in the area average around 21.4 degrees Celsius, not really a definition of a cold place so to speak. This makes Alanya’s beaches very much enjoyable throughout the year.

Alanya is also a nice place to visit in Spring and Autumn, with average daily temperatures between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. Many can benefit visiting Alanya at this time to avoid the mass movement of tourist in the area during the summer as well as avoid sunburn on your body as the blistering Alanya summer sun kicks in.

All in all Alanya can be considered to be a warm coastal city. One can certainly avoid the chilly climates of European cities by just traveling south-east to Alanya in Turkey where the experience will certainly be a long savoured one!
